Duane Morris Names 10 Attorneys to Partnership

Duane Morris LLP is pleased to announce that it has promoted to the firm partnership 10 associates and special counsel in seven of the firm’s offices. 

These newly named partners are from the following firm practice groups:

Lisa Hird Chung in San Diego and Timothy B. Collins in Philadelphia.

David C. Dotson in Atlanta, Jarrad M. Gunther in Philadelphia and David T. Xue in Silicon Valley.

Sean K. Burke in Washington, D.C.; Justin J. D’Elia in New York; Luke P. McLoughlin and Alyson Walker Lotman in Philadelphia; and Corey M. Weideman in Houston.

Sean K. Burke represents clients in complex commercial litigation across the U.S. He regularly represents manufacturers of medical implant devices in products liability cases nationwide, including a complex multidistrict litigation in federal court and a coordinated proceeding in state court consisting of more than 1,000 cases. Burke serves as national trial counsel to a Fortune 500 company specializing in document management systems and services for cases involving trade secret litigation, the breach of non-competition and other restrictive covenants, and commercial contract disputes concerning third-party claims for indemnification. He also represents and counsels clients in the gaming industry, with a focus on horse racing, in a broad range of matters involving state regulatory compliance, contract negotiations and litigation involving negligence claims. Burke is a 2007 magna cum laude graduate of Villanova University School of Law, where he was managing editor of special projects for the Villanova Law Review, and a 2004 cum laude graduate of Catholic University of America.

Lisa Hird Chung practices in the area of employment law and litigation. She defends employers in single plaintiff, collective action and class action lawsuits involving wrongful termination, discrimination, retaliation, harassment, trade secrets, breach of contract, fraud and wage-and-hour claims, among others. Chung’s trial experience also includes representing employers in trade secret misappropriation actions, discrimination lawsuits and wage-and-hour cases involving claims of misclassification, unpaid overtime, and meal and rest break violations, for which she has appeared before the California Labor Commissioner. She advises employers on prevailing wage issues. In addition, Chung has obtained workplace violence restraining orders for the protection of threatened employees. She is a 2006 cum laude graduate of the University of Minnesota Law School, where she was executive editor of the Minnesota Journal of International Law, and a 2002 summa cum laude graduate of Arizona State University.

Timothy B. Collins focuses his practice on a wide array of the tax and ERISA aspects of tax-qualified retirement plans; equity awards, such as stock options, SARs and restricted stock; nonqualified deferred compensation and SERPs under Code Section 409A; executive employment agreements, golden parachutes and other change-in-control arrangements; severance contracts; performance bonus and incentive plans; and excess benefit and top hat plans. He represents companies and executives in drafting and negotiating employment arrangements and counsels clients in all matters related to fiduciary compliance. Collins advises clients who are seeking approval under the IRS Employee Plans Compliance Resolution System program and the U.S. Department of Labor Voluntary Fiduciary Correction Program. He is a 2006 magna cum laude graduate of the University of Notre Dame Law School, where he was a notes editor of the Notre Dame Law Review, and a 2002 magna cum laude graduate of the University of Notre Dame.

Justin J. D’Elia focuses his practice in the areas of securities arbitration as well as civil and criminal litigation related to the brokerage industry. He regularly represents brokers and broker-dealers in arbitrations and regulatory matters before FINRA, the Securities and Exchange Commission, state regulatory agencies and other self-regulatory organizations. D’Elia’s practice includes representation of companies and individuals in connection with federal class action litigation and complex commercial litigation. He recently obtained an order of no penalty for any misconduct from a chief administrative law judge on behalf of a broker concerning SEC allegations of a Ponzi scheme at an investment firm. D’Elia frequently advises companies on compliance and supervisory policies and procedures. In 2008, he was recognized with the Duane Morris Pro Bono Award for his efforts in obtaining asylum for an Iraqi citizen who aided American forces as well as derivative asylum for his family. D’Elia is a 2005 graduate of New York Law School and a 2002 graduate of the College of the Holy Cross.

David C. Dotson practices in the area of intellectual property litigation, with a focus on patent litigation and licensing. He is a member of the firm’s U.S. Patent Trial and Appeal Board practice group. Dotson is a registered patent attorney with extensive experience litigating patent infringement cases in various U.S. district courts and has litigated patent infringement actions relating to a wide variety of technologies, including mobile devices and mobile Internet technology, xDSL, VoIP, Wi-Fi, MPLS networks, cloud computing, content delivery networks, network security, Multimedia over Coax Alliance (MoCA), liquid crystal display (LCD) circuitry, computer hard-drive technology, automated/database marketing systems and integrated circuit manufacturing. Dotson is a 2007 cum laude graduate of the University of Florida Levin College of Law, where he was an editor of the Journal of Technology Law & Policy and earned a Certificate of Intellectual Property, and a 2004 cum laude graduate of the Georgia Institute of Technology.

Jarrad M. Gunther practices in the area of intellectual property law with a focus on patent litigation and U.S. Patent Trial and Appeal Board proceedings, including inter partes review (IPR) and covered business method patent review (CBM) proceedings. He counsels clients on validity and infringement issues and prosecutes and secures patents in many areas of technology, including medical devices, computer software, integrated circuit devices and fabrication methods, computer software memory architecture, and semiconductor memory devices. He has experience in patent licensing and transactional matters, including structuring, negotiating and drafting agreements. Admitted to practice in Pennsylvania and New Jersey and before the United States Patent and Trademark Office, Gunther is a 2007 graduate of Franklin Pierce Law Center and a 2003 graduate of Bucknell University.

Alyson Walker Lotman focuses her practice on products liability litigation, including mass tort and toxic tort litigation and pharmaceutical litigation. She also focuses on personal injury defense litigation, including premises and FELA litigation. Lotman has handled appeals before the Pennsylvania appellate courts. She has extensive experience in all phases of products liability litigation, including significant experience deposing plaintiffs and fact witnesses, coordinating discovery, drafting a wide range of motions and participating in trial preparation and at trial. Lotman represented a pro bono client in securing the return of a child to its home country pursuant to the Hague Convention on the Civil Aspects of International Child Abduction. She also represents pro bono clients in guardianship cases. Lotman is a 2007 cum laude graduate of Villanova University School of Law, where she was editor in chief of the Villanova Environmental Law Journal, and a 2004 magna cum laude graduate of Bucknell University.

Luke P. McLoughlin focuses his practice in complex litigation matters and has significant experience representing clients in business disputes involving financial instruments, trade secrets, software and contracts. He represents financial institutions, corporate entities and individual clients in federal and state courts throughout the U.S., including pre-litigation counseling and investigation, discovery, motion practice, injunctions and trials. McLoughlin also represents companies on appellate law matters. He received the 2016 Duane Morris Pro Bono Award for his work representing veterans organizations and veteran-owned businesses as amici curiae before the U.S. Supreme Court in a case affecting billions of dollars of government contracts. McLoughlin is a 2005 magna cum laude graduate of New York University School of Law, where he was articles editor of the NYU Law Review, and a 2000 magna cum laude graduate of Harvard University.

Corey M. Weideman focuses his practice on complex commercial, intellectual property and employment litigation. He has experience representing a diverse clientele of Fortune 100 companies, mid-sized companies and individuals in state and federal trial courts across the U.S. and in all forms of alternative dispute resolution. Weideman’s practice routinely involves matters alleging non-compete, trade secret, unfair competition, fraud, shareholder oppression, copyright infringement, trademark infringement, business torts and complex breach of contract claims. He counsels clients regarding the protection of trade secrets, confidential information and the enforceability of covenants not to compete, as well as trademark prosecution and management. He is a member of the Texas State Bar Pro Bono College, an honorary society that recognizes Texas lawyers who exceed the State Bar’s pro bono standard. Weideman is a 2006 graduate of South Texas College of Law, where he was assistant note and comment editor of the South Texas Law Review, and a 2003 graduate of the University of Texas at Austin.

David T. Xue, Ph.D., has extensive experience representing clients in a wide array of patent-related matters, including strategic counseling, portfolio management and monetization, freedom to operate analysis, patent prosecution, inter partes review (IPR) and U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC) proceedings. He counsels technology companies on computer software and hardware, semiconductor devices, networking devices, electronic devices, medical devices, wireless communication networks, network security and storage, web-based applications, electronic transactions and fraud prevention, social networking, multimedia content and digital documentation. Xue earned his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences from the University of California, Berkeley, in 1997 and his J.D. in 2007 from the University of San Francisco School of Law. Prior to entering private practice, Xue served in management roles at two major Chinese technology companies. In 2006, he received the Outstanding Chinese Patent Award by the State Intellectual Property Office of China.
