Grant Thornton Re-elects Jim Wittmer to Partnership Board

Grant Thornton LLP partners and principals re-elected Jim Wittmer, partner and East region practice leader for Corporate Strategic Tax Services, to the firm’s Partnership Board. Wittmer, based in the firm’s Philadelphia office, has over 25 years of corporate tax experience serving public, private, and foreign-owned companies in a variety of industries.

His duties and authorities as a Board member include approving the philosophy and direction of the partnership, including strategies and annual business plans, formulating policies to guide the governance of the partnership and reviewing and overseeing the activities of the CEO, the Senior Leadership Team and the operations of the partnership.

For the last fifteen years, Jim has served as a leader in the specialty corporate tax areas including Accounting Methods, Research & Development Credit Studies, Tangible Property Regulation Studies, Cost Segregation Studies, Section 199 consulting, and Meals & Entertainment review engagements across the firm. He has also successfully defended these studies before the IRS including ones that have utilized statistical sampling techniques. Jim is in constant communication with the IRS National Office of the Associate Chief Counsel.

As a member of Grant Thornton's Tax Education Committee, he is a frequent lecturer at both national and local tax education sessions. He is also a frequent lecturer to outside professionals and business groups.

Jim is an accountant licensed in Pennsylvania. He is a member of the American and Pennsylvania Institutes of CPAs. Jim has been published in several publications, including Real Estate Finance, Business Finance, and Forbes. 

Jim is a graduate of LaSalle University with a Bachelor’s in Accounting Degree. In addition, he holds a Master in Taxation Degree from Villanova University School of Law.
