Lori K. Shemtob Presented at the American Bar Association Family Law Section Meeting in Savannah, GA

6/5/17

Montgomery County attorney, Lori K. Shemtob, current President of the Pennsylvania Chapter of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers (AAML), recently presented a Continuing Legal Education seminar at the American Bar Association Family Law Section semi-annual meeting in Savannah, GA on May 4 and May 5, 2017.

Her topic was concerning addiction as it relates to parenting plans, “It is not just drugs and alcohol anymore”.

During the seminar Ms. Shemtob presented tactics on how to recognize addiction and how to draft parenting plans/custody agreements, which would protect children when there is addiction involved with one or both of the parents.

According to Ms. Shemtob, “protecting children in these custody orders is the most important and crucial aspect of a custody agreement. Keeping children safe when addiction is present is critical.” According to Ms. Shemtob, lawyers need to better educate themselves so that they are aware of different addictions, whether it be drugs, alcohol, sex addiction, gambling, or food addictions. All of these may have a devastating effect on a child.

Ms. Shemtob has been a Fellow of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers for 14 years, a National Honor currently bestowed on 61 lawyers in Pennsylvania. Ms. Shemtob is a founding partner of the family law firm of Shemtob law, P.C.
