CRANBURY, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dr. Jill Biden, former second lady of the United States (2009-2017), educator and cancer advocate, will serve as the keynote speaker at CURE Media Group’s event celebrating the 2017 MPN Heroes. The MPN Heroes Recognition Program honors individuals or organizations that have made a difference in the field of rare blood cancers, known as myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPNs). The MPN Heroes Celebration Event will take place on December 8 in Atlanta, Georgia.

“We are honored to be joined by Dr. Biden whose drive and dedication to educating the community and raising awareness about cancer is exemplary. We look forward to having Dr. Biden give the keynote address at this year’s event,” said Michael J. Hennessy Jr., president of Michael J. Hennessy Associates, parent company of CURE Media Group, which is the nation’s leading digital and print media enterprise focused on patients with cancer.

Following the death of their son, Beau Biden in 2015, Dr. Biden and former Vice President Joe Biden, helped push for a national commitment to cure cancer, which is known as the White House Cancer Moonshot. Now, they continue this through the Biden Cancer Initiative.

After four of her friends were diagnosed with breast cancer in 1993, Dr. Biden founded the Biden Breast Health Initiative in Delaware to teach young girls about the importance of early detection of breast cancer. To-date, this program has educated more than 10,000 high school girls.
