Skanska’s Philadelphia office held its 10th Annual Skanska Charity Challenge golf outing and donated $32,500 to eight charities selected by the winning teams.
This year’s winning team donated $10,000 to Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society, which provides financial assistance and education to active duty and retired members of the United States Navy and Marine Corps, their eligible family members and survivors – when in need. Other recipients include Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, Mary Campbell Center, Susan G. Komen Foundation, American Cancer Society, West Shore United Girls’ Rugby, Epilepsy Foundation and Rock Ministries, Philadelphia.
“Our mission at Skanska is to help build better communities in the markets we serve,” said Edward Szwarc, Executive Vice President and General Manager, Skanska USA. “In addition to the Charity Challenge, our employees contribute year round through volunteering, fundraising and mentorship to organizations that help improve the lives of local citizens.”
Skanska’s PA-based office created the Charity Challenge to bring Skanska’s clients, subcontractors, vendors and colleagues together for golf tournament that would benefit the greater good while increasing awareness for causes close to the participants’ hearts. Since its inception in 2008, the Charity Challenge has raised nearly $285,000 for more than 85 local charitable organizations.
Skanska is committed to helping the local community deliver and receive better care through philanthropic efforts like the Charity Challenge and through their own projects. Locally, Skanska is currently building the women and children’s health center for Christiana Care Health System in Newark, Delaware and Inspira Health Network’s new five story hospital in Gloucester County, NJ.
