Dr. WeihongHsing discussed latest trends and challenges in global life sciences industry

PanitchSchwarze Belisario & Nadel intellectual property attorney WeihongHsing, Ph.D., took part in the recent USTC (University of Science and Technology of China) Alumni Life Sciences Symposium in Jersey City, N.J.

The symposium, which was held Oct. 1, featured accomplished USTC alumni who are leading figures from academia and industry brought in to share their experiences and insights on numerous topics.

The symposium was composed of three separate panels and Hsing was one of five experts who spoke as part of the Biotech Ecosystem Panel.

The panel shared their experiences and insights with the attendees concerning the key opportunities, latest trends, and challenges for the global life sciences industry in research & development, mergers & acquisitions, intellectual property, venture capital and marketing, as well as for USTC alumni in career development.

Hsing, who had postdoctoral training in molecular biology at Princeton University, with a Ph.D. in microbiology from University of Massachusetts and B.S. in biology from the University of Science and Technology of China, specializes in patent-related issues in the biotechnology and pharmaceutical arts.

A partner at PanitchSchwarze, her practice involves the preparation and prosecution of patent applications, IP due diligence in mergers & acquisitions, opinion work on patent validity and infringement, rights to operate and patentability analyses, as well as technical support for patent litigation.

Prior to switching to the private practice of law, Hsing worked as a patent manager at Johnson & Johnson, where she drafted and prosecuted patent applications, undertook patent and prior art analysis, and assisted in strategic counseling and patent portfolio development and management. Before starting her legal career, she was a research scientist at Princeton University and a senior scientist at a biotech startup company.
