Philadelphia Furniture Show Highlights the Quirky and Sublime

2/21/18

24rd Annual Show returns to 23rd Street Armory on April 13th

The Philadelphia Furniture Show returns to the 23rd Street Armory this spring for a weekend showing one-of-a-kind, hand-made pieces by artisans from around the country. In a special collaboration, original painting and sculpture from Philadelphia’s own Center for Emerging Visual Artists will be display in a curated installation. The Show runs from Saturday, April 14th to Sunday, April 15th, with a Preview Party on Friday, April 13th from 6 to 9pm, cohosted by CFEVA.

“This is the longest-running exhibition of its kind in the US, and this year we are delighted to have more women furniture makers than ever before,” said Stefa Normantas, managing partner of Green Tree Events, owner of the Philadelphia Furniture Show. “Here you will meet master craftspeople and artists who have created work that is stunning and elegant, yes; but also quirky and innovative. That is what makes our collaboration with the Center for Emerging Visual Artists a great fit.”

The collaboration highlights the work of today’s masters of hand-made furniture and undiscovered visual artists from around the region. The Show will exhibit the work of fifty artisans who work in wood, metal, ceramics, lighting and fabric, often transforming found objects into high design. The CFEVA exhibition will feature paintings and sculptural pieces in a variety of media.

The Philadelphia Furniture Show is expected to draw 3000 visitors to the Armory over the weekend. Guests at the Friday night Preview Party will have the first chance to purchase one-of-a-kind furniture and artwork before the Show opens to the public on Saturday.

In keeping with decades-old custom, the Preview Party begins with the ceremonial cleaving of a fresh-cut log with a two-person saw, and continues with craft beverage sampling from Dad’s Hat Pennsylvania Rye Whiskey and Flying Fish Brewing Co, hearty hors d’oeuvres from 12th Street Catering and an open bar.
