8/28/18

Newmark Knight Frank (NKF) is pleased to announce strategic hires for its Valuation & Advisory (V&A) practice in the firm’s Washington, DC regional office.

NKF, under the leadership of Senior Managing Director, Market Leader - Washington, DC; Maryland and Virginia Patrick Kerr, MAI, SRA, FRICS, has hired Executive Vice President Brian Johnson, Executive Vice President Kelly Small, Senior Vice President Guy Rubley and, most recently, Executive Vice Presidents Todd Canterbury and Jane Diven.

“Following the strategic acquisition of IRR DC and IRR Baltimore, there couldn’t have been a better combination of professionals to compliment Pat’s incredibly talented team. Kelly, Guy, Brian, Jane and Todd are the marquee names in the multihousing, hospitality and office sectors in this region,” said V&A President John Busi, MAI, FRICS. “We’re so excited about the potential of this Mid-Atlantic stronghold.”

Brian Johnson serves as Mid-Atlantic Hospitality, Gaming & Leisure team leader in the firm’s DC office. Johnson is a 28-year valuation industry veteran with extensive experience including full-service resorts, hotels and golf courses along with multihousing, condominium conversions, office, special purpose, marinas, and regional malls. Prior to joining NKF, Johnson served as executive director with Cushman & Wakefield’s Hospitality & Gaming Practice in its Washington, DC office for 15 years.

Having focused on the multihousing market since 2003, Kelly Small, MAI, an appraisal veteran for nearly 30 years, leads the NKF V&A Multihousing team in the Washington, DC region. Prior to joining NKF, she was with Cushman & Wakefield for nearly 20 years, serving most recently as senior director in their Multifamily Specialty Practice. While her practice focuses on multihousing, Small’s expertise encompasses a variety of deliverables including HUD multifamily accelerated processing (MAP) appraisals, financial analyses, market research and real estate settlement work. Working with Small, Guy Rubley has over 15 years of valuation experience. Prior to joining NKF, he worked for nearly 14 years in the Valuation & Advisory Multifamily Specialty Practice of Cushman & Wakefield.

As co-team leaders, Todd Canterbury, MAI, with 26 years of valuation experience, and Jane Diven, MAI, MRICS, a 17-year industry veteran, lead NKF V&A’s regional office market team. Canterbury and Diven focus on the valuation of institutional properties throughout the metropolitan Washington, DC market. They specialize in office properties and large-scale, mixed-use development projects. Most recently, both were with DC Appraisals LLC, a boutique commercial real estate appraisal firm specializing in institutional properties in Washington, DC and Northern Virginia. Canterbury and Diven previously served in senior level positions at Cushman & Wakefield in Washington, DC for 13 years and five years respectively, and prior to that they worked, for five years and eight years respectively, at CBRE.

These strategic hires join an existing NKF V&A Mid-Atlantic office. The accomplished team, of over 20 professionals, includes First Vice Presidents Sam Sherwood, MAI, public institutions team leader and Sid Tidwell, MAI, retail and industrial team leader, with extensive valuation experience in the Washington, DC market.

“We are very fortunate to have assembled these best-in-class teams to bolster our already outstanding roster at NKF,” said Kerr. “With John Busi, and U.S. Co-Leaders Helene Jacobson and Steve DuPlantis’ leadership, we look forward to leveraging our specialized expertise in the rapidly expanding V&A practice.”
