Thomas Giannone
Commercial Real Estate Executive Honored for Four Decades of Success and Industry Leadership
Thomas V. Giannone, a principal at Avison Young New Jersey, has been awarded the NJBIZ Icon Award in recognition of his longstanding career in the New Jersey commercial real estate profession and continued support of the state’s larger business community.
The NJBIZ ICON Award recognizes New Jersey business professionals over the age of 60 for their notable success and demonstration of strong leadership both in and out of their field. Giannone has been one of the most successful commercial real estate brokers and recognized business leaders in the state for over four decades.
"It’s an honor to be included among this prestigious group of ICON Award recipients," said Giannone. "My thanks to NJBIZ for this recognition and congratulations to all of this year’s deserving honorees for their continued exceptional work within the state."
“On behalf of Avison Young, we congratulate Tom on this well-deserved honor, and we are proud to have him as part of our organization,” added Jeff Heller, Principal and Managing Director of Avison Young New Jersey.
Giannone currently leads a team of professionals focused exclusively on representing the occupiers of space with tenant representation and corporate services. He has both real estate and engineering experience throughout his career, with a specialty in technically complex facilities.
Giannone first worked as a civil engineer and commercial real estate developer, where he garnered in-depth knowledge of landlord operations and how they correlate to tenant relationships. He later joined the brokerage side of the business as a tenant representative and this understanding of both sides of the profession has proved invaluable in negotiating optimal terms for his clients.
His broad educational training, along with his technical skills and experience, enabled him to develop creative real estate solutions utilizing sale/leasebacks, build-to-suits, and purchase options to enhance value for his clients. He has assisted a wide range of companies align their real estate commitments with their business drivers, especially within the technology and life sciences industries.
Giannone has also devoted his career towards supporting New Jersey’s thriving technology community, principally as an advocate for the life sciences industry. He has recently served as Chairman of the New Jersey Tech Council’s CFO Peer Network as well as a member of BioNJ’s CFO Advisory Committee and the Newark Regional Business Partnership.
The 2020 NJBIZ ICON Award recipients include leaders from New Jersey’s accounting, health care, financial services, and commercial real estate industries. NJBIZ honored this year’s ICON honorees during a special virtual presentation on August 18th.
